For those in the UK:

1) Are people finding their prescriptions have been placed on a monthly basis rather than two months supply?
2) What do you think of the current batch of modafinil issued? (Duds? OK? REALLY strong ones?)

The first q isn't that important, but would be useful to know.
The second q is important because I've been having real hell with them since about August. My packs (no matter which chemist I'm using) seem to contain dud ones that taste of nothing and then a few super strong ones. (200mg and 100mg effected.) I've been up since 2:30pm Friday and took 2x200mg; finally got to sleep at 11am Saturday; slept for 4 hours and then took 2x100mg because I kept dreaming like mad. Felt rather wide awake but had a nap at 8:30 til 9pm. It's now 2:30am on Sunday, I've done the housework and my brain is sharp!

My hours are completely screwed, but I'm trying to organise some work shadowing in a sleep clinic so I guess it'll be useful. I've rung Cephalon UK in Surrey though no recalls have been issued. Thought I'd post this seeing as some Dexamphetamin had been called in, in the USA.

Hi,

When I was on modafinil my GP would only prescribe me one months supply at a time. There has been a warning on modafinil in 2007 about the fact that it may cause suicadal thoughts. Maybe your GP is just being causious. I am on dexedrine and again my GP will only prescribe me one month at a time. I asked for two months and he said that it wasn't within the guidelines. I also have to sign each prescription when I collect it from the chemist. Both are class drugs and both are expensive which could mean that they don't want to waste them. I become tolerant to dexedrine (amphets) after a few months then come off them.
When I was on modafinil I can remember getting a packet different from all the previous ones. I complained as these were not as good so the chemist went back to the original source. She said that the ingredients were exactly the same but sometimes one ingredient can be slighty different and effect the tablet. Complain to the chemist.

Nah, not suicidal. Modafinil isn't a controlled substance either so there is no real reason for 1 month at a time but the dex is, hence the hassle when you get them every month.
The different pack you got - was it a french/european brand: modiodial? If so, even the French complain about them! hehe. Those ones contain talc, if anyone tells you it has the same ingredients in then it's rubbish because the active ingredient is also down to particle size too. Talc if you are interested is a packing agent that is banned in some countries. They tend not to use it in the UK but do in Europe.

Complaining to the chemist is no good - I've been there before. Most don't know what to do and it's best to call someone direct or get the specialist to deal with it.

I also forgot to mention the batches that I've got:
BN: 7A23
EXP: NOV 09
&
BN: 7A19
EZP: NOV 09

Both me and my friend had terrible experiences with another generic from France. We weren't necessarily experiencing suicidal thoughts - that would be a long way to go - but we were very low - feelings the blues pretty bad. Then I spoke about feeling sad hurt and don't know why and replied with the same . We further concluded it was that French stuff to blame. It wasn't modafinil but some close relative Adrafinil - sold by the name Olmifon. Horrible stuff.
