Since we have started a thread for photography, I thought another "Art" thread could be a poetry discussion.

I wrote this a couple of months ago. It is even partially about narcolepsy. The form is one of my favorites - a sestina! I hope folks enjoy it. I am also hoping others will post!

While my name is alliterative,
the burning issue in my life
revolves around my unending
battle with the demon of sleep,
narcolepsy. I do teach
high school, but more often learn

from my students. I hope to learn
from all of you alliterative
alternatives which will teach
me new ways to view my life.
Though my problem is sleep,
it is my stress that I find unending.

I thoroughly enjoy the word association, unending –
which has helped me to learn
that the recesses of sleep
are peppered with alliterative
examples that prove long life
has so little to teach.

It is our musings that teach
wisdom unending,
or at least they see that life
is nothing, if not a chance to learn
how alliterative
exercises can induce sleep.

While my struggle with sleep
has begun to teach
me balance, I still adore alliterative,
unending
efforts to learn
lessons that enliven life.

This mysterious life
vexes my sleep.
I may never learn,
even as I teach,
how my frustration unending
will ever become alliterative.

Within all that is alliterative beats a life-
line unending. It hovers within sleep,
working to teach me, even as I learn.

I wrote these the other day and feel like sharing them:

A Pulse

Water cascades from the fountain
A myriad of methods at play
Yet all resolve in the same pool
Only to begin anew an infinite

Loop the strap around a wrist
The better to hold close
Each captured memory and moment
Though only within a paper thin

Picture the instant when first
A person knows the means
And method of life's rhythm
Only to lose the beat amid life's

Noise penetrates to the core
Particularly when peace is
Sought and celebrated in silence
Soon lost in roars of rushing

Rivers of people stream through
Each life on Earth wending and
Winding a tapestry rich and radiant
But often unraveled by mere drops of sad

Cohesion

I love the thought
That the same force
Which allows water
In a fountain to act
Like glass a clear,
Connected whole of
Transparent, translucent
Solid as it sprays
Forth from the jets
Is also holding my
Cells and organs
Intact and in tune
Like a shimmering
Sculpture of crystal
Dazzling and delicate
And dearly delivered
For my make up
Has a higher percent
Of water than any fountain.
